Il Circolo Scholarships for the year 2009 have been awarded to:

• 
  Ruth Chester—Graduated in English literature from the University of East Anglia and subsequently completed an MPhil in Medieval Language, literature and Culture at Trinity College Dublin. Currently a part time PhD student at the university of Leeds’ Centre for Dante studies, she is carrying out research on Dante’s uses of “reason and faith” in the Divina  Commedia. The scholarship is granted to help Ruth become a full time student.

  Anne-Marie Eze—Graduated in Classics from University College London, she is currently a PhD student in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute. Our scholarship is granted for a proposal to catalogue illuminated miniatures excised from Italian Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts at the British Library.
  
  Annalisa Gastaldello—Graduated in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Padua, she then became a research fellow at the same university. Our scholarship is a contribution to support a period of research training at the Department of Basic Science of the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, on the role of Mitochondrial Benzodiazapine Receptor in Human Cancer Cells.
  
  Thomas Hobbs -He is a Tenor in his first year of study at the Royal Academy of Music on the Royal Academy Opera Programme, specialising in Rossini’s work. The scholarship is granted to help finance his second year.
  
  Cheen Peen Khoo -Originally from Malaysia she graduated in Biotechnology from Newcastle University and subsequently completed an MPhil in Physyology from Manchester University. Currently in her final year of PhD at Queen Mary School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London, researching on the application of Stem Cells in Diabetes treatment. The scholarship is granted to assist her PhD research between University Campus Bio-Medico in Rome and Queen Mary University of London.
  
  Rita Mascagna—Violinist in her first year of post-graduate diploma course in music and Violin at the Royal Academy of Music. Our scholarship will be a contribution to support her second year.
  
  Alessandro Saguineti—Cellist in his first year of Doctor of Music degree at the Royal College of Music, studying 17th Century composers from Bologna and Modena. Il Circolo scholarship will be a contribution to support his second year.
  
  James Skipworth—Graduated in Medicine from Imperial College London, he is currently working on MD in Genetic Influences on Pancreatic Pathophysiology at University College London with testing exchanges with other European Centres including the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. Il Circolo scholarship is granted as a contribution to support this research.
  
  Simone Spagnolo—Italian composer graduated in Music and Composition from London Middlesex University, he is currently in his first year ofa Masters degree (MMUS) in composition at Trinity College of Music, Greenwich. Our scholarship will be a contribution to support his second year.
  
  Maria Giuditta Valorani—Graduate in Biology from La Sapienza University in Rome, she is currently a Senior Investigator at Queen Mary Hospital, London,completing a PhD in Regenerative Medicine. The scholarship is granted to support her research in Stem Cell Therapy in the Prevention of Type I Diabetes.
  
  Fabio Camilletti—Graduated in Italian literature from the University of Pisa he then studied at the Scuola Normale di Pisa, Oxford University and the Sorbonne. He is currently in his third year of PhD at the University of Birmingham, working on a project on “The use of quotations in Giacomo Leopardi’s ‘Zibaldone’”. Il Circolo scholarship is granted for this demanding and original research.
  
  Jaroslaw Krupa—Surgeon, graduated from the University of Warsaw, he is currently working as a Senior Clinical Fellow in the Breast Surgery Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton with special interests in Oncoplastic and Reconstructive surgery of the breast. The scholarship is granted to support a visiting fellowship to Instituto Nazionale Tumori in Milan.
