At the home of Viviana Stefanile

Our hostess shared with us  her own passion for Japanese  ceramics which she acquired during her stay in Tokyo. She described the  history and techniques of Japanese painting on ceramics and explained the  meanings and use of some typical symbols, the neutral colours and the kind  of brushes used in this type of painting. An informal lunch  followed.

A country soirée
Saturday, 7 June 2008 - from 6 pm to 10 pm
Tenuta Boglione
Petersham House
Petersham, Surrey

The owners of  Petersham Nursereis, Mr Francesco and Mrs Gael Boglione opened the  doors of their beautiful Queen Anne house and the gates of their even more  magnificent gardens  to host a soirée amongst flowers and lush verandas, Oriental sculptures and French rustic furniture, hand-made  fabrics, fragrances and perfumed soaps - all based on the ecological  principles which the Boglione family and Petersham staff have enthusiastically embraced.
During the supper guests were  entertained with a fashion show of leisure wear and accessories, designed by  the Italian stylist Deborah Martinelli Bonavia and adorned with jewellery by Gianmaria Buccellati.

Lucas Cranach

Royal Academy of Arts
Burlington House
London W1J 0BD

Despite The Guardian's report  that the image of a 500 years old painting - "Venus" by Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553) - could not be used in advertising this exhibition on the London Underground because it could cause offence to passengers, the arresting image of Venus was chosen by The Royal Academy to promote their exhibition devoted to one of the most important painters of the German Renaissance. Lucas Cranach and Martin Luther became friends. Cranach shared Luther's ideas and contributed to the creation of Protestant iconography, representing scenes from the Old and the New Testament. Cranach was also Court Painter to Frederick III Elector of Saxony, who enobled him and granted him the coat of arms with the winged dragon which Cranach used to sign his artworks. More info
