  \n\nJoin us for a talk by Alberto Bragho'  "Aristotle and the Italian R
 enaissance" at Francesca's House.\n\nAristotle was a Greek philosopher and
  polymath of the 4th century BCE\, whose writings laid the foundation for 
 much of Western philosophy and science. A student of Plato and tutor to Al
 exander the Great\, he explored subjects ranging from logic and ethics to 
 biology and politics\, shaping intellectual thought for centuries.\n\nThe 
 Italian Renaissance was the rebirth of intellectual and artistic appreciat
 ion of the ancient classical Graeco-Roman culture. It gave rise to the “
 modern individual “\, as well as to the social and cultural institutions
  that define the Western world today.\n\nJacob Burckhardt says that\, duri
 ng the Renaissance\, "man was conscious of himself "and did not live “in
  function of something else\, as during the Middle Ages”. Through the tr
 anslations of Aristotle's works by Cassiodorus\, Boethius\, and Averroes\,
  the Greek philosopher's Ethics and Logic—seen as systematic human actio
 n for the benefit of the community—became the foundation of the studia h
 umanitatis\, which strongly influenced the cultural movement of the Renais
 sance in Europe."
