Join Il Circolo Bookclub – Mondo Nuovo, our Italian book club, for an online discussion of “Falsi Amici” by Claudia Durastanti with Olga Campofreda.
Piero della Francesca, Amy Winehouse’s shoes, women’s literature under Fascism, Cesare Pavese, *Lolita* and a house in the province of Messina.
In Claudia Durastanti’s first collection of essays, all these stories share a common colour: pink. A colour that is both feminine and intense, pink becomes the starting point for an exploration that drives the author like an archaeologist of the present. For whilst it is true that fiction can draw on lived experiences, it is equally true that non-fiction offers life a space for reflection that can give rise to imagination.
Following her forays into autofiction and genre fiction, with *Falsi amici* Claudia Durastanti brings her intimate and analytical writing into the realm of the narrative essay, to explore topics and inspirations that are only seemingly eclectic. The pink hue of *Falsi amici* is a chromatic filter of deceptive sweetness, the profound meaning of a manifesto that questions current affairs, politics and the body, but it is also an adventure of the mind, in which the author reflects on her own intellectual role, her relationship with the masculine and motherhood, through a welcome openness to the unexpected and the unpredictable. In writing as in life.
This event is open to Non-members at an additional contribution of £5.
